Another Work in Progress Coming Soon!

2016 Judicial Portrait - Peter Espinoza

Gridding the canvas and photos and sketching out the portrait took about 2 hours.
Painting Day 1: I started with the face since it's so important to get this right. 8 hours of painting shown here
I refined some of the details like the facial hair, ear, and hair, and started blocking in some background color. 6 more hours of painting.
I started in on the bowtie and suit. The shirt really reads as white now without bare canvas around it. Another 5 hours of painting.
5 more hours painting the suit. The subtle lighting variations and texture of the cloth have made this part more challenging than the face!
Probably 12-14 more hours of painting. Now that I have all of the color blocked in, I can go back in and start to refine everything.
12 more hours of painting, and I'm happy with the results.
Made some requested changes, which brings the total painting time to approximately 56 hours.
